Tony Wroten is officially a 76er.

The NBA approved the franchise's acquisition of the 6-foot-6 guard from the Memphis Grizzlies for a protected second-round pick Thursday.

The pick is based on where the Sixers, who are expected to struggle, finish in the NBA standings. As a result, they basically surrendered nothing for the 2012 first-round selection.

"He's a young player that's athletic that plays well in the open floor, that has an attacking mind-set," Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie said. "We hope to put him into the kind of culture that we are going to try to build here."

The Sixers are positioning themselves for lottery picks in the 2014 draft. However, the team expects to create a hardworking culture in which players improve daily.

Players also "will be given an opportunity to show what kind of player you are," Hinkie said. "I think it is a good place for a highly touted, athletic, big 20-year-old to be."

Wroten, whose cousin is Nate Robinson of the Denver Nuggets, averaged just 2.6 points and 1.2 assists in 7.7 minutes last season while playing in 35 games. He also appeared in 11 games with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League.

Kazemi's future. The Sixers have yet to decide whether they will send second-round pick Arsalan Kazemi overseas for the coming season.

Under NBA rules, they would retain the rights to the power forward out of Oregon. However, he would not count against the Sixers' salary cap or luxury tax for 2013-14.

87ers acquisitions. Former Temple guard Ramone Moore was among 16 players the Delaware 87ers acquired exclusive NBA Development League rights to in Wednesday night's NBA D-League expansion draft.

Moore played in 37 games last season for the league's Springfield Armor. The other acquisitions are Josh Akognon (from the Canton Charge), Chris Cooper (Bakersfield Jam), Jerome Dyson (Tulsa 66ers), Kyle Fogg (RGV Vipers), Jeremy Green (Erie BayHawks), Frank Hassell (Canton Charge), Darington Hobson (Santa Cruz), Leo Lyons (Santa Cruz), Hamady N'Diaye (Maine Red Claws), Reeves Nelson (L.A. D-Fenders), Jerome Randle (Maine Red Claws), Ish Smith (L.A. D-Fenders), Willie Warren (RGV Vipers), Tyler Wilkerson (Austin Toros), Sean Williams (Texas Legends).
