Big man Rudy Gobert talks with Sixers

CHICAGO - Rudy Gobert was the biggest prospect at the NBA draft combine.

The center from France stands 7 foot 1/2 in his socks and 7-2 in his sneakers. He has an incredible 7-81/2 wingspan and massive hands.

Yet the 20-year-old is a raw talent. He needs to get stronger and polish up his post game in order to contribute in the NBA.

However, his athleticism and size are why he's projected to be a mid-first-round pick in June's draft. The 76ers, who are likely to get the 11th pick, interviewed Gobert here on Friday.

"I'm not a fan at all," said an NBA scout who asked to remain anonymous. "I've seen him in person a couple of times over the last two years. He's immature physically. And off the court, he's not a man.

"He's a guy who is long and can run. But he doesn't have a great feel for the game."

Some would argue that's easy to overlook since Gobert wasn't introduced to basketball until nine years ago. Before that time, table tennis was his primary sport.

Not that tall. There are annually a few notable players at the combine who don't live up to their listed heights. UCLA forward Shabazz Muhammad fits into that category. The Bruins listed him at 6-6 this season. However, Muhammad measured out to 6-4 3/4 in socks.
