Sixers Notes: Sixers' Doug Collins pulling for his son

Duke assistant coach Chris Collins, the son of 76ers coach Doug Collins, was named the head coach at Northwestern on Wednesday.

Duke assistant coach Chris Collins, the son of 76ers coach Doug Collins, was named the head coach at Northwestern on Wednesday.

Before the Sixers game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Collins said he hoped his son would get the job.

"Chris had a very good interview there the other day, and obviously [Northwestern] fits the profile of what he's been looking for in his career," he said.

Chris Collins replaces Bill Carmody, who was fired March 16 after his Wildcats went 13 years without an NCAA berth.

Collins has been an assistant at Duke since 2000. He also played there from 1992 to 1996. He is from suburban Northbrook, Ill., about 15 miles from Northwestern's campus in Evanston.

"I know that Chris is very excited about the opportunity," Doug Collins said.

Facing the Heat

If the playoffs started today, the Milwaukee Bucks would be the eighth seed and preparing to play the seemingly invincible Miami Heat.

The Bucks' 100-92 loss to the Sixers on Wednesday was their fourth straight. Still, they are just 21/2 games behind seventh-place Boston, and just five games behind fourth-seeded Chicago.

"Trust me, we want to move up the ladder," said former Sixers center Samuel Dalembert, now with the Bucks. "We have played well against Miami this season, but they are a different team right now."

The Heat had won 27 straight before falling to the Bulls on Wednesday in Chicago.

"They have been playing at a different level," Dalembert said. "So moving up would be the best chance for us to play in the second round."
