76ers' Jrue Holiday named to all-star team

The 76ers' steadily worsening record was not enough to prevent fourth-year guard Jrue Holiday from being named by coaches as one of the seven Eastern Conference reserves for the NBA All-Star Game next month in Houston.

Holiday became the second Sixer in the last two years to make the all-star team. Andre Iguodala, traded to the Denver Nuggets over the summer, was a reserve last season, when he became the first Sixer since Allen Iverson in 2006 to make the team.

"On behalf of our entire organization, I would like to congratulate Jrue Holiday on being named a member of the 2013 NBA Eastern Conference All-Star team," Sixers managing owner Josh Harris said. "We are extremely proud of Jrue and consider him to be one of the cornerstones of our franchise and also one of the NBA's bright young stars."

Other players added as Eastern reserves were Chris Bosh (Miami), Tyson Chandler (New York), Joakim Noah (Chicago), Paul George (Indiana), and Luol Deng (Chicago).

Holiday, in his fourth season, is averaging career highs in points (19.0), assists (9.0), rebounds (4.2), field-goal percentage (45.4), and minutes played (38.1). He also leads the league with a career-high 4.0 turnovers per game.

He and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, a Western Conference reserve, are the only two players in the league averaging at least 18 points and eight assists. He is on pace to join Wilt Chamberlain as the only player in franchise history to average 18-plus points and eight-plus assists in a season.

After having just one double-double last season Holiday has recorded 11 double-doubles this season and one triple-double, the second of his career.

Selected by the Sixers with the 17th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Holiday started 51 games with the Sixers and averaged 8.0 points and 3.8 assists per game. Before this season, Holiday's best season was his second, when he averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 assists.
