Turner, Iguodala star in 76ers' 125-117 overtime win over Warriors

These were the moments that Evan Turner expected after being the second player selected in the NBA draft by the 76ers: One big shot after another, playing in key fourth quarter and overtime situations.

These were the moments that Evan Turner expected after being the second player selected in the NBA draft by the 76ers: One big shot after another, playing in key fourth quarter and overtime situations.

Although this has been an up-and-down season for the Sixers rookie, his performance in Sunday's 125-117 overtime win over the Golden State Warriors at the Wells Fargo Center will surely boost his confidence.

Turner had 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in 28 minutes, 11 seconds. His performance was so impressive that it overshadowed the second consecutive triple-double by Andre Iguodala, who had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Through three quarters, the score was tied at 80, and, at that point, little suggested that Turner would be an integral part of the win. He had just six points at the time.

Turner added six in the fourth quarter and eight more in overtime, the difference in the Sixers' 19-11 advantage in the extra period.

"I thought Evan made great plays late in the game," said Sixers coach Doug Collins, whose team led by as many as 18 points in the second quarter.

The most spectacular play by Turner was a driving dunk after getting by David Lee to cut Golden State's lead to 98-97 with 2:23 left in the fourth quarter.

"Evan is very confident and feels very much that he belongs out there," Collins said.

Another player who was huge late in the game was guard Jodie Meeks, who scored 10 of his 11 points after the third quarter. Meeks tied the score at 100 on a three-pointer with 1:45 left in regulation.

He hit another three that expanded the Sixers lead to 112-108 in overtime.

The Sixers (32-30) needed the late-game performances to offset the effort of Golden State guard Monta Ellis, who scored 18 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter.

When Meeks hit two free throws to increase the Sixers lead to 106-103 with 9.3 seconds left in regulation, things looked secure.

Of course, against Ellis no three-point lead is safe. Ellis drilled a three-pointer over Thaddeus Young with 3.7 second left to tie the score.

"That Monta Ellis can flat-out score," Collins said.

The game went into overtime after Iguodala couldn't control the ball and ended up shooting an off-balance air ball.

Young, who scored 20 points off the bench, opened the scoring in overtime with a layup off a Jrue Holiday feed. The Sixers never trailed in the extra period, one in which Turner did not leave the court.

"It's big, and I definitely want to be in there at crunch time to help the team out," Turner said. "And that is what I'm built for - to help the team at the end of the game."

Golden State fell to 27-35.

The Sixers also received 19 points off the bench from Lou Williams and eight from Marreese Speights.

Still, the focus was on Turner, who also played strong defense.

"Evan showed people tonight that he can be a solid defender," Iguodala said.

Turner said a key to his improvement is that he is looking ahead - and not over his shoulder.

"I have a little more experience under my belt, and I am not as worried," the rookie said. "If I mess up a little bit, it doesn't bother me too much, and I'm out there trying to make plays."
