NBA: Cavaliers trade former St. Joe's star West to Minnesota

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded former St. Joseph's star Delonte West to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The deal sends West and another point guard, Sebastian Telfair, to Minnesota in return for point guard Ramon Sessions and forward Ryan Hollins. The Timberwolves say they will also send Cleveland a future second-round pick in the deal completed Monday night.

The trades were the first significant personnel moves the Cavaliers have made since star LeBron James left to sign with the Miami Heat earlier this month.

Sessions and Hollins both signed with the Timberwolves before last season as part of a new rebuilding project. But the Timberwolves signed Luke Ridnour and Darko Milicic, making both of them expendable.

Hornets hope to keep Paul. New Orleans new general manager Dell Demps said he is confident star guard Chris Paul will remain with the team. Demps, who was hired last week, said Paul met with new coach Monty Williams and top team officials on Monday, and did not request a trade when the meeting ended.

Paul, in a statement released by the team, said he was encouraged by the recent changes. "I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team," the statement read.

Bulls consider McGrady. Chicago, in the midst of rebuilding, had a look at seven-time all-star Tracy McGrady.

McGrady could be a low-risk addition for a reconfigured team coming off back-to-back first-round playoff exits, but there are big questions surrounding his health. He had microfracture surgery on his left knee in February 2009 and appeared in just 30 games last season with New York and Houston, averaging 8.2 points.

Nets promote Marks. New Jersey has promoted Bobby Marks, the team's vice president of basketball operations, to assistant general manager.

Marks, who joined the Nets in 1995 as a public relations intern, will work with general manager Billy King on salary cap management, scouting, player personnel and daily basketball operations.
