Turner working out for only Sixers

After believing he was deserving of being the overall No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, Ohio State swinman Evan Turner is now determined to become the second overall pick in the NBA draft, which is owned by the 76ers.

After believing he was deserving of being the overall No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, Ohio State swinman Evan Turner is now determined to become the second overall pick in the NBA draft, which is owned by the 76ers.

He even refused to participate in pre-draft workout with the Washington Wizards, who hold the No. 1 pick. The 6-foot-7, 210-pounder declined to work out for any squad except for the Sixers.

But back on May 20, Turner wanted to become a Wizard.

Why the switch?

"The Wizards are looking for their best choice, and my agent [David Faulk] and I are looking for my best choice," said Turner, who participated in the Sixers' pre-draft workout Thursday alongside Villanova's Reggie Redding and Temple's Ryan Brooks at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

"Philadelphia is a better choice than the Washington Wizards," he added. "My agent and I sat down and we talked. . . . He said Philly was a great city and that was the best situation."

Even though some inside the Wizards' organization liked Turner, the team is expected to use the first pick on Kentucky freshman John Wall. Turner is projected to be taken by the Sixers.

A potential franchise player, he has the ability to play point guard, shooting guard, and small forward.

The 21-year-old swept the Wooden, Oscar Robertson, Associated Press, Naismith, and Sporting News awards for national player of the year in 2009-10. Turner averaged 20.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1.7 steals.

He thinks that he's a good fit for the Sixers' personnel.

"Jrue [Holiday] is a good young guard," Turner said. "Andre Iguodala is a great wing. Elton [Brand] is really good. Thaddeus Young is really good. I think this is really good city and a good program."

The Sixers are scheduled to bring back Brooks for another workout Friday. He will be joined by Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins, Georgia Tech's Derrick Favors, La Salle's Rodney Green.
