Scott fired
The New Orleans Hornets fired coach Byron Scott yesterday and named general manager Jeff Bower as his replacement.Owner George Shinn said the move gives the Hornets the best opportunity "to reach our goals this season."
The Hornets also said former New Orleans coach Tim Floyd, whom Scott replaced, will be one of Bower's top assistants.
New Orleans lost, 124-104, at Phoenix on Wednesday, falling to 3-6.
When Scott took over as coach after the 2003-04 season, he was the Hornets' third coach in three seasons.
He was the NBA coach of the year in 2008, when Chris Paul led the Hornets to a 56-26 record.
Douby released
The Toronto Raptors released guard Quincy Douby, a former Rutgers star who had been on the inactive list since Oct. 28 and did not appear in any regular-season games.
The four-year NBA veteran averaged 4.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 10.7 minutes in 143 career games with the Raptors and Sacramento.
West out again
Troubled Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West was inactive for the second night in a row, and coach Mike Brown said his status was day-to-day.West made the trip to Miami but sat out against the Heat because of an "internal matter," Brown said.
He was indicted Nov. 3 on additional weapons and traffic charges stemming from his Sept. 17 arrest for speeding on a motorcycle and carrying multiple weapons. The former St. Joseph's star has been treated in the past for bipolar disorder.
