For now, Sixers are without vice president of marketing

The 76ers, a week away from the start of training camp, are without a vice president of marketing.

A source confirmed that the team let marketing VP Eric Blankenship go sometime in the last 2 weeks.

As to why, Sixers publicist Mike Preston would only say: "We don't discuss personnel decisions in the front office. That has been our policy."

As to how the team proceeds until a new marketing specialist is chosen, Preston said: "Everybody picks up the slack. There's a job to be done, and the common goal is to get the job done the best we possibly can."

Blankenship declined to comment.

Blankenship was hired in July 2007. From Tampa, Fla., he had spent 5 years working for Global Spectrum, the public assembly facility management subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor, the Sixers' parent company.

Even without a designated marketing specialist, the Sixers will unveil their new uniforms tomorrow afternoon at the Wachovia Center; the uniforms have been redesigned to coincide with the franchise's primary logo change.

Betsy Ross will put the final stitches in the uniforms this morning at 7:30 in the courtyard of the Betsy Ross House, 239 Arch St.

The Sixers will open training camp Sept. 29 at Saint Joseph's University.

No flex pricing

Although they are owned by the same parent company, the Sixers will not have a flex pricing program that increases the prices on some tickets to certain games as the Flyers have done, Sixers vice president Lara Price said. The Flyers have increased prices for about 1,000 tickets to 12 games. Comcast-Spectacor announced earlier this year that the Flyers and Sixers would not have ticket price increases for the coming season.
