The Boston Celtics have offered forward Rasheed Wallace a contract as part of a major push to land the forward, the Boston Globe reported yesterday.

The Simon Gratz High graduate was offered the deal Thursday during a three-hour meeting in Detroit. Celtics stars Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce joined general manager Danny Ainge and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck at the meeting.

Wallace's agent, Bill Strickland, told the Globe in a text message that it was a "very good meeting; some contractual terms discussed, nothing agreed to."

He also said Wallace, 35, will meet with other teams next week. Charlotte, Cleveland, Orlando, and San Antonio are said to be possible suitors.

Iverson looking. Former 76ers star Allen Iverson has told the Grizzlies via representatives that he would like to play in Memphis, an NBA source told the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Thursday.

The high-scoring veteran and all-star guard is a free agent for the first time in his career. Iverson, 34, reportedly has had some discussions with the Miami Heat since the free-agency period began Wednesday. There also were Internet reports Thursday that the Chicago Bulls have interest.

The Grizzlies had no comment about Iverson's inquiry.

Detroit search. Pistons president Joe Dumars will meet with former Dallas coach Avery Johnson, an ESPN analyst, tomorrow regarding Detroit's coaching vacancy, ESPN.com reported.

Turkoglu to Toronto? Hedo Turkoglu and Portland ended contract talks, and the free-agent forward is targeting Toronto as his new team, ESPN.com and Yahoo! Sports reported.

Turkoglu, who helped Orlando reach the NBA Finals, can command $6 million more from Toronto than Portland, according to Yahoo!

Jackson staying, Gasol playing. Phil Jackson will return to coach the Los Angeles Lakers next season, getting a clean bill of health after a championship season.

Center Pau Gasol will play for world champion Spain in September in Poland in the European Basketball Championship.
