Iguodala happy to fit in anywhere for 76ers

One big question for the 76ers as the team prepares for its fourth season under coach Maurice Cheeks is whether Andre Iguodala will open at shooting guard or small forward.

Cheeks said last week that the fifth spot is to be determined in a lineup that is certain to include newly acquired power forward Elton Brand, center Samuel Dalembert and point guard Andre Miller.

The 6-foot-6 Iguodala was asked his preference: small forward or shooting guard? He said the positions are "interchangeable."

"There may have been times last year where it looked like I was playing the 'two' [shooting guard] and I was playing the 'three' [power forward]," Iguodala said. "Defensively, I'm still going to guard a guy who has the ball in his hands the majority of the time. It's pretty much the same."

Iguodala talked to reporters at the Wachovia Center, where the team gathered before heading to Penn State for preseason training camp. The sessions begin today at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Among those who will vie for a spot in the Sixers' starting lineup are second-year forward Thaddeus Young and a pair of free-agent acquisitions, swingman Kareem Rush and guard Royal Ivey.

Returning guards Lou Williams and Willie Green also are in the mix.

The Sixers' first preseason game is on Oct. 8 against the Boston Celtics at the University of Massachusetts. On Oct. 10, the New York Knicks will visit the Sixers at the Wachovia Center.

Politicians are supposed to watch what they say. But at yesterday's Nat'l Governors Conference, Ed Rendell made some blunt, maybe even sexist, remarks about Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano that were picked up by a nearby microphone.
