Kareem Rush joins 76ers

Shooter? Check.

Cross another item off Ed Stefanski's summer to-do list.

Yesterday, Stefanski, the 76ers' general manager, officially announced the signing of shooting guard Kareem Rush.

While the Sixers, per team policy, did not disclose terms of the agreement, a source familiar with the negotiations said Rush signed a minimum-level contract, which, for a player such as Rush, credited with six years of service in the NBA, would be $998,398.

Rush made $770,610 last season with the Pacers. He is now the 10th player under contract for the Sixers this season.

The addition of the 6-foot-6 Rush, who is known as a solid outside shooter, fills a gaping hole in the Sixers' arsenal. During the 2007-08 season, the 76ers were worst in the league from beyond the arc, shooting 31.7 percent.

"As we continue to build our team, we're fortunate that we were able to sign a player as talented as Kareem Rush," Stefanski said. "We feel his abilities on both ends of the floor and his range as a three-point shooter will be assets to us this season."

Rush, 27, shot 38.9 percent last season with the Pacers en route to a solid campaign, with averages of 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds a game. The previous season, 2006-07, Rush played for Lietuvos Rytas of Vilnius, Lithuania, after being cut by the Sonics four games into the regular season.

The Toronto Raptors made Rush their first-round pick (20th overall) out of Missouri in the 2002 draft. He was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played 21/2 seasons before being traded to the Charlotte Bobcats 14 games into the 2004-05 season.

In 314 games, Rush holds averages of 6.8 points and 1.8 rebounds, while making 36.0 percent of his three-point shots.

With the blockbuster signing of power forward Elton Brand earlier this summer and the addition of free-agent guard Royal Ivey earlier this week, the Sixers have added to both their frontcourt and backcourt. Now, attention turns to re-signing guard/forward Andre Iguodala and guard Louis Williams, both restricted free agents.

A source close to the Iguodala negotiations said yesterday that the 76ers and Iguodala's representative were working to reach a deal.
