ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Magic won't be swept by the Detroit Pistons. Rashard Lewis made sure of it last night.
Lewis had a career playoff high of 33 points, and the Magic broke down the Pistons' stout defense in a 111-86 victory.
Detroit leads the Eastern Conference semifinal by two games to one, but may have to play without all-star point guard Chauncey Billups.
The Pistons lost Billups just four minutes into the game when he drove to the basket and got tangled up with Orlando's Jameer Nelson. Nelson's leg caught Billups' foot, and the Piston fell hard to the court with a strained right hamstring.
Billups, Detroit's steady floor leader and clutch three-point threat, was averaging 17.5 points in the postseason and had 28 against the Magic in Game 2.
Richard Hamilton scored 24 points for Detroit and Tayshaun Prince had 22, while Rasheed Wallace scored 11 on 4-of-15 shooting.
With Billups out, rookie Rodney Stuckey stepped up big for the Pistons, scoring 19 points.
Dwight Howard had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Orlando, and Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu both scored 18.
Knight leaving Hawks. Billy Knight will resign as Atlanta's general manager in July, despite leading the team to its first playoff appearance in nine years this season.
Knight said it was time to "take a break" after a season in which his authority appeared to be weakened by unsuccessful lobbying with ownership to fire coach Mike Woodson.
Knight will step down on July 1.
Over six years, Knight played the lead role in rebuilding the Hawks and ended the NBA's longest playoff drought.
One of the owners, Michael Gearon Jr., said Knight's resignation did not affect Woodson's status.
"You cannot tie the two together," Gearon said. "Frankly, this was not a decision by us. It was a decision by Billy."
Gearon said he had no list of candidates to replace Knight "because this was unexpected."
Nets' Jefferson charged. New Jersey Nets forward Richard Jefferson was charged with assault for allegedly grabbing another man by the throat at a Minneapolis hotel club earlier this year.
Jefferson was in town with the team on Jan. 27 when he allegedly went to the club, where the victim was having a private birthday party in a roped-off section. Jefferson allegedly entered the area and got angry when he was asked to leave.
He is accused of grabbing the victim, shoving him to a bench, and choking him with both hands.
Jefferson's first court hearing was set for June 18.
Nets spokesman Gary Sussman had no comment. Jefferson's agent did not immediately return a telephone message.
Arenas: Keep Jamison. Guard Gilbert Arenas says he won't return to the Washington Wizards if forward Antawn Jamison isn't re-signed by the team.
"If he doesn't come back, I'm not coming back," Arenas said on his blog.
Arenas, a three-time all-star who missed most of this season after two operations on his left knee, can opt out of his contract.
Jamison, a cocaptain and two-time all-star, is set to become a free agent.
