Andrew Bynum officially ruled out of season opener

POSTED: Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 7:24 PM

The 76ers officially ruled out Andrew Bynum’s participation in Wednesday’s home opener against Denver during an evening practice at Wells Fargo Center on the eve of their season. Additionally, the Sixers said there is no timeframe for Bynum’s return.

“While Andrew and the 76ers are both eager for him to resume game play as soon as possible, given the long regular season and the playoffs, the team intends to act with caution as to the date of his return,” read a statement issued by the team.

“Andrew has already commenced low-impact conditioning,” the statement continued, “and will be re-evaluated by medical personnel on a continuous basis.”

Well, this was a low-risk, high-reward move from the get-go, so what's the difference?

They never should have set the earlier timetable (setting Oct 24 or 25 as his day back to practice) anyway... it only sets up disappointment and concern unnecessarily. 82 game seasons are long enough for him to miss a set of games.

Damaged goods is what we got.To be 25 years old and have such tender knees is of big concern. For one he needs to get his weight down ti take some pressure off of the knees.Secondly we need to get an extra player from the trade ir some other sort of comp for the damaged goods. We will see what we have gotten the the grind of the season gets in full swing. But this does not look good for the Sixers. And if he does get himself ready for this season what about the next two or three seasons.

better to take a chance to be a contender with Bynum than to stay mediocre forever. Who wouldnt have done this deal again? Its not like they traded Moses Malone away. It was Iguodola - lifetime robin to a non existent batman in philly

I think everyone knew he'd miss some games during the year, just happens to be at the very start. No problem for now. Glad to hear he's up and moving around. Don't rush it.

Bynum had a terrific season last year. Whats different this year. Sixers are protecting their investment and that's all there is to it. Look for him in a couple of weeks

Is there any truth to the rumor that Bynum's coming to tomorrow night's Halloween game dressed as Jeff Ruland?

Phil Magitti you got ripped off by Phil Sheridan. The time stamps don't lie. You posted this four hours before Sheridan.

So he's already commenced riding a stationary bike and swimming? wow, that's awesome news. NOT! He won't be ready till The Winter Classic. Well, if there were a Winter Classic, that is.

could be all long-term thinking. address knee issues know for bright tomorrow. i'm also thinking this could be just knee issues.

they look good without him. i hope he is just being cautious and when he returns, he and sixers will dominate. team to beat in the east. run at the championship. deep, talented, defensive minded...whoa, sixers could be good.

What you see is what you get.Bynum will be in an out of the lineup just as he was with the lakers. Talented yes,but will not hold up.

No real concern here. I seen this man play on torn ligaments to help win a title. The same knee that would be fine if Kobe would have passed him the ball at Memphis instead of forcing a shot and rolling up on that knee. Since the, this guy has had issues caused by his former teamate. He would if the sixers let him play, so I'm not concerned.

ACT WITH CAUTION!? Give me a break! Give him back to the lakers! He is a re-tread...period! Right off jump street, he's out! No opener, no date of a possible return! This is "our" future? The big man we have been searching for since Moses Malone?! This was a mistake from the beginning, one the organization will be paying for...ala...Chris Webber, Coleman,& Bradley for a long time.
