Sixers' Nick Young strives to hit comfort level

Nick Young says he is still adjusting to his new team and a new offense with the 76ers, which begs the question – what's going to happen when the 6-foot-7 shooting guard gets totally comfortable?

Young will never make anybody's all-defensive team, but he can truly fill it up.

"I am getting more comfortable every day," said Young after scoring 19 points in Wednesday's 113-99 preseason win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Young is now averaging 19 points per game, best on the team. He is instant offense off the bench, but coach Doug Collins feels there are things he can do to make Young an even more effective scorer.

"I don't want him to work so hard to get his own shot," Collins said.

And one of the things Collins is trying to get Young to do is work better off the ball. He wants Young to make more cuts toward the basket when he isn't handling the ball.

"Some guys, when they come off the ball and don't have a shot, they have a tendency to stand," Collins said.

One of those guys is Young.

"It is a big adjustment," Young said . "Coach tells me I have to break habits and that I have to get used to cutting without the ball."

One thing that needs no adjustment is Young's ability to shoot. He is a career .378 shooter from beyond the arc and last season in the playoffs he shot 17 for 33 (.515) from three-point territory for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Collins also talked about trying to get Young more shots, which was music to his ears.

"That's great," Young said with a big smile. "It is great that coach believes in me like that, plus my teammates too."

In the first four preseason games, Young has shot 24 for 47 from the field and 8 of 14 from beyond the arc. With statistics like that, it's easy to see why there will likely be even more ways devised by the coaching staff to get Young the ball.
