Andre Iguodala sells Main Line home
Bob Ford, Inquirer Sports Columnist
In this column from the NBA draft on Thursday night, I wondered what the 76ers were going to do with all the similar players they seem to enjoy collecting on their roster. The next-to-last paragraph read this way:
“The feeling here is that one of those duplications will be calling a real estate agent soon and his name is Andre Iguodala. Otherwise, the selection of (Moe) Harkless doesn’t make much sense.”
Well, what do you know? In the Friday edition of Philadelphia Business Journal, right there on page 30, among the high-end real estate transactions, is the news that Iguodala has sold his house on the Main Line for $1.25 million.
The Villanova home had been listed for sale for some time, according to selling agent Michael Becker of Prudential Fox & Roach, and Iguodala had been leasing it to other tenants during the sale process. So, it’s not like Iguodala got a phone call from the Sixers on Monday and started making plans. The sale went through in mid-May while Iguodala and the Sixers were still busy with the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs.
“I never met him,” Becker said. “It was all done through his agent. All I can tell you is that he wanted to sell the house.”
The five-bedroom, six-bathroom custom-built home was completed for Iguodala in 2008. He sold it for a bargain. Comparable listings in the area average approximately $1.6 million, which was the Iguodala’s original asking price for the property. Maybe he just wants to travel lighter, or live in town, or downsize from a property that cost him $28,000 in taxes in 2011. In any case, Iguodala is divesting himself of his Philadelphia holdings and that could be a strong indication he doesn’t expect to be around much longer.
The Sixers drafted Harkless, a small forward from St. John’s, who not only plays the same position as Iguodala, but he has very similar attributes – quick to the rim, a decent handle on the ball, not much outside shooting.
It’s true that Harkless is young, just 19 years old, and will probably not transition into the regular playing rotation right away. It’s also true, however, that the Sixers are toying with the idea of giving Evan Turner more minutes at the wing position, something that will open up space for the drop-dead perimeter shooter the team hopes to acquire either through free agency or trade.
And if someone arrives in trade, someone has to leave. We won’t know the identity of that someone until it happens. But someone just sold a house.
100% believe that he's traded by the end of the weekend. beegal99
why do i bother to click on any of these silly stories? ArtieLange
Bob, "...drop-dead perimeter shooter" you're kidding right? the Sixers haven't had that since Andrew Toney. you're one funny dude. he he he. Tyrone Biggums
so where is Doug Collins when you need him ? anthemra
Wait, his house has been on the market since the Boston series? Why would the Sixers tell Iggy they are going to trade him during the midst of a playoff run? This doesn't add up. bdd5014- The sale went through in Mid-May... meaning it was on the market well before then... and it's not like houses sell immediately (or even go through immediately). Would be surprising if it went up for sale in the beginning of the season, or even before. Bob Ford wrote that Iggy asked for a trade, so maybe he put it up back before the season.
Either way, he needs to go somewhere else. I say that with respect to him and to the sixes, but it's obvious both parties are looking for something else out of this relationship, something that isn't there. Sixers want a franchise player (which Iggy isn't), Iggy wants a winning, competent organization (which the sixes aren't). vinni - Andre Iguodala-- one utterly unlikeable person
- You know him personally,, of course not. You're just a jerk who makes girlie statements. YOU lady are totally and utterly unlikeable,, and cowardly too.

I agree with ArtieLange... Why do I bother to click on to theses silly stories? DESIXERSFAN
Kenny Junod will drive him to the airport. PhillySubsMac
OK, they got two young bangers and guys who also can go inside. Now AI goes to a team who has a sniper?????? Just what team is that??? Why would any team want to help the 6ers grow unless they GYP them with more than AI??? Koons
or *gasp* maybe he's just moving to another house? naaawwww...no juice to that "story". Dean Winchester
Kyle Korver is a free agent. Why not just sign him? Also OJ Mayo is now unrestricted. 2 birds one stone there? Trade Iguodala. Amnesty Brand. We get down around $25 million there. Easily resign Lou & LaVoy. Sign Humphries & Korver you might be in the 40-45 million range. Get a starting quality SG or SF who can actually shoot, get to the line and hit free throws (probably in the trade for Iguodala). Sign our rookies you get near $50 million and then go for a starting center. Nowhere near the luxury tax and your team is complete. Could be an all-star or superstar if the shooter/scorer you get for Iguodala is good enough. joesmooth2u
if only dreams came true! male
The two new kids go with the other five core kids. Who cares about the crabby old max salary guys. All they had to do was put up star numbers to match their salaries in their ample court time. Instead they whined and moaned like the losers that they are. Sixers are a better team today. Too bad they can't amnesty Iguodola AND Brand. tomficara
I'm shocked that everyone and their mother is saying that an Iggy trade is imminent. They obviously haven't been following this team the past few years because this guy has been surrounded by rumors the entire time with nothing happening. People have said that he was tradeable with Turner's arrival. Even if they've been shopping him, no deal has been good enough to pull the trigger and this organization isn't about to trade its best player for peanuts.
I don't care if Iggy moves to another city, I won't consider any trade imminent until the news breaks. enkiel
By the way, the author of this article quoting himself and claiming to be a prophet is ridiculous. News of this sale was being passed around on friggin Youtube yesterday. enkiel
Wilt wasn't very likeable. Why do we care if these guys are likeable. Elvis turned into a drug addled creep by the time he croaked on the crapper, but i still love his music. retzlaff
To Ashburn072 -- How can you say that AI is "one utterly unlikable person"? Have you even spent 10 minutes in his company?
And PLEASE: No KYLE KORVER -- Not again!!! tbjama
Out here on the West Coast in Laker-land, they're hot to move Gasol, and he might be on his way to Philly... JRum- Boom! There it is...
caught: not sure the Lakers would trade Gasol for Iguodala straight-up. I will believe any trade when it happens. This story is ridiculous anyway, as houses take forever to sell these days and did Ford check to see where he has been living while the House was being rented to tenants? chuckw
They should try to trade Iguodala to Houston for Kevin Martin and Royce White. Houston didn't want three rookies, would fill an obvious need at SF, and open up room for Jeremy Lamb at SG. Sixers get a competent SG with a decent sized expirer after the season to coincide with Brand's expirer, a multitalented rookie with lots of potential, and open up room for Harkless and Turner. Let this season be a time to gauge your 7 young players, only sign fillers to one year deals, and be ready to rock and roll the next year with all the cap space you could imagine and a firm idea of the talent level on the squad. aintthatashame- Now this is real journalism. Pulitzer written all over it. pedge
Just spoke with Bearsfriend and he said that Royce White bought Iguodala's house!!!! JBP- JBP: priceless!
chuckw
Seriously? ClarkU
Chris Christie has convinced AI to move to NJ??????? Taxes
Bob Ford probably still thinks Paul McCartney is dead. dasher
This is literally the dumbest story I've ever seen. He'd been leasing that property for over a year and had been living somewhere else in the area...for over a year. It'd been for sale for over a year. Some more awesome crack journalism from our mediocre Inky sportswriters. vdstrading
@ashburn72- I met andre iguodala before and he was a very nice guy, so you have no clue what you are talking about you clown... smiggs13
Another siff bites the dust. Philly ought to have a wall of shame were we can put the picture of evey stiff that has graced the walls of the team lockerroom. I guess we would need a 4 story building on the parkway to house such a collection of stiffs. Imagine how many tourists would come to the building to see the exhibit. It would be more famous than the the liberty bell building. Lets move on the idea. We might invite all the former stiffs and their wives,Ops I'm sorry, there wouldn't be enough room for that many people. It will have to be a private showing. rduexpress
Iguodala to the Lakers, Gasol to the Timberwolves, Derrick Williams and a Future 1st to the Sixers tkohl
sounds like Iggy out and Monte Ellis in sdeens
Iggy has 2 problems: 1. He's a very good player who gets paid to be great (& really thinks he is). 2. He comes across to Philly fans like a cold fish. He probably thought he was going to be traded during the past season, so that's why he put his house up for sale. At this point, the Sixers should trade Iggy for the best shooter they can get --- right after the Olympics, when his value is the highest. yobill626
In other words, "D" for "O"... yobill626
i dont think gasol is worth it straight up honestly. the only player id want from the lakers is bynum and they arent giving him up. i hope the sixers try addressing their needs through free agency and try to get a high draft pick and young talented player for him HDemetriou
Not the time to trade Iggy ,coming off his first all star berth and clutch playoff performance. Trade him if Harkless or Moultrie turn into studs and take his spot without losing ground DonovanMcNabb
There is not one player on this team worth keeping. The team has drafted poorly. The free agents are horrendous. The organization allows Thorn, who is leaving, to run their draft. The only capable person in this organization is Collins. And we wonder why they don't win. bball1
I don't know Andre. I have never met him. I am not an agent. I do work in the Real Estae field. If one owns property ANYWHERE near Andre Iguodala, you know he is a "NIGHTMARE NEIGHBOR". He pays top dollar for property and when he is bored with it, he DUMPS it. That is, he sells it to the first shmoe whom comes in with a rediculous lowball offer. I know it's a tough market. I know his Main Line property was listed for over 9 months. I know, I know, I know!
I am also sure there are people that will praise his apparently SELFLESS/NON GREEDY actions with respect to Real Estate owned.
However, "Iggy" is not strapped for cash. He has dumped property before, irrespective of market time, in a better market. He doesn't seem to care what "DUMPING" does to ALL property values in a neighborhood. Appraisers HAVE TO include his selfish/lazy legacy when valuing similar homes in his area. Consequently, when iggy dumps property because he just wants out, he brings EVERYONE'S value down.
HE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE. If he did, he would instruct his agents to wait for an offer reflecting true market value. An offer which reflects well and considers the needs of his community. Who knows, perhaps Iguodala has no idea the damage he creates with these transactions. Maybe someone should ask him about it. "I'M JUST SAYIN'". tompain007
tompain007, I have to admit one thing. Before reading your post I thought real estate agents were one step above lawyers and pond scum. I stand corrected, all three are equals. Bobby V
I hope wherever he goes he keeps shooting airballs and bricks. The best thiing he ever did was sink those free throws to get us a playoff victory and past the Bulls. sammydelphia
Iguodala is their best player, they aren't going to trade him for any of the deals proposed in this thread "just to move him" they are waiting for a significant offer. If the move Iguodala, they would need to replace him with a player his caliber, just with a different skill set. Honestly, I felt they should have offered their #15, Turner, and Thad to get the #2 pick and grabbed Bradley Beal. A 6'5" shooting guard who pours in the points, plays d, and doesn't constantly need the ball opens up the offense for Holiday and they still could have pulled the move for Moultrie and signed another upgrade over hawes/brand big in FA like Ilyasova. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz!!! Just sayin'... DJ
