Hawes out for tonight's game
Spencer Hawes will again miss tonight’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Clippers with a sore left Achilles tendon. This will be the 12th game that Hawes has missed in the last 14.
After tonight, the Sixers embark on a three-game road trip against Cleveland, Charlotte and Orlando.
“If Spencer can’t play we won’t take him on the trip,” Collins said after this morning’s shootaround. “He can stay back and get treatment. We will make a decision after the game whether he comes with us on the road.”
Hawes last played in Monday's 95-90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He totaled eight points and five rebounds in 32 minutes and 29 seconds.

- Softest guy in the NBA. Doesn't care. Phillip?
Very concerning that this dude can't stay healthy. i did not confirm this stat - but i heard on 97.5 that the sixers are 11-2 with hawes and 6-6 when he's out of the lineup. ouch. CosmoK- In other breaking news, Obama is president Corbett is governer & Nutter is mayor. mtairy1
- So much for that big contract year
Hawes is a top 10 center in the NBA. They need him to get that knee right!! If not, go get Kamon. They can probably get him for draft picks. FetchDixon
Send him out to buy some new suits...if an announcement comes that quick after a morning shootaround...he ain't close....The MRI did come back negative, correct?...Rumors can't be true that the organization will be playing the Mr. Softie theme when he comes out to centercourt. bearsfriend
Get your rest now before the end of the season push and playoff grind Spencer... gopherkiddd
@Fetch...it's Chris Kamaan, and he's way past his best playing days...no thank you. Although Hawes had a nice start to his season, and if in shape possesses a skill set that jives with DC's halfcourt offense, I don't believe personnel evaluators would consider him a top 10 center in the NBA. bearsfriend
Is Matt Geiger his father? jimmymack
Actually, the more I think about it, fans are simply happy that the Sixers were getting some actual production from the center position to start the season....But looking around the NBA, there are MANY bigs that the Sixers would swap Hawes for in a second...Obviously, some of these players may not fit into DC's scheme of style of play or character...Nevertheless...Howard,Bynum,Varejeo,Noah,Jefferson, Gasol,Cousins,Bogut,Jordan,McGee,Chandler,Gortat,Monroe,Hibbert,Lopez,Horton,Kanter,Favors,Duncan,Bargani (in no particular order)...some people would argue Dalembert,Hansbrough,Haywood,Nene,Marc Gasol...Need I go further? (Heck,Tiago Splitter and Illysova would look good right now) bearsfriend
how do any of you know what kind of pain he is dealing with, or how doctors feel this injury could play out over the course of the season???this isnt a bruise or a broken finger so you really have no idea what the situation is jame4213
This is exactly why come March 1st, it's time to start thinking about bringing in Humphries or JaVale McGee. What if Spencer Hawes maybe doesn't get close to 100% for the rest of the season or is shut down? The Sixers will be asking for a lot out of fellow rookies, Vuc and LaVoy. Especially, if you have visions of getting out of the first round. It's soon time to pull the trigger on a big. Seeing Red
Hawes is not the long term answer and from some of the posters here, they think he is locked in to a 5 year deal. Shelve him until he is fully healthy and if that means you go out and get a guy like Humphries or McGee like Red said, then do it. Nocioni is an expiring contract that NJ will take on in a second and include some draft picks as well. Tonite though, it looks like Blake and Jordan might have their way inside with the Sixers.

@jame...it's got to be a pain tolerance type of problem...a lingering injury that can just get worse...But in the Hawks game (last Friday), he did display explosive ability going HIGH over the rim to slam home an offensive rebound (called off for offensive basket interference, but the ability to spring...and land, was evident)...Over time though, the pounding gets to him, as four times now (during timeouts), he has pulled himself out of games. bearsfriend
@Seeing Red...I'm glad March 1rst is that date (as well as March 15th for a deadline), as I'm on the fence...I'm sure the Sixers brass is as well...Seems like they are tryiung to talk themselves into thinking everything will be alright with him. bearsfriend
