USA vs. Honduras, 2013 Gold Cup: Preview and TV schedule
The United States will be big favorites in their Gold Cup semifinal against Honduras on Wednesday, but Los Catrachos are likely the stiffest test that Jurgen Klinsmann's team has faced thus far in the tournament. They won their group comfortably, locking it up before their final match. They then defeated Costa Rica, a team that fell to the U.S. in the group stage, in the quarterfinals.
Honduras were made to fight in that match and only managed one goal, with youngster Andy Najar, once eligible to represent the United States, firing through to the semifinals. They barely hung on in stoppage time against Costa Rica, but got through thanks to some good goalkeeping and good fortune.
Klinsmann will probably field roughly the same squad, but could opt to make a change at the back. Omar Gonzalez was called in as a replacement player for the knockout stages, but was not available this weekend while he was playing with the LA Galaxy. He might replace Clarence Goodson as Klinsmann tries to get Gonzalez and Matt Besler -- who appear to be his first-choice pairing at the moment -- some more time together. Eddie Johnson's heroics off the bench could earn him a starting spot, as well.
Match date/time: Wednesday, 7 p.m. ET
Venue: Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas
TV: FOX Soccer (U.S. - English), Univision Deportes (U.S. - Spanish), Sportsnet World (Canada), ESPN (U.K.)
