Preseason Game Recap: Philadelphia Eagles beat Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-24 - Brandon Lee Gowton, BGN
My recap from last night's adventure. The Eagles do have legitimate concerns, but let's not overreact too much.
Explaining the Different Look On Offense - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
Chip Kelly‘s first-team offense looked different against the Jaguars than it had in the previous two preseason games. Not as rooted in the run game. Fewer quick strikes and bubble screens. Longer-developing plays. The offensive line was decidedly less effective. So what happened?
Game review: Bennie Logan should be starting at NT - JimmyK, Philly.com
Earlier this week, Chip Kelly announced that Michael Vick had beaten out Nick Foles for the starting QB job this season. If there were a similar competition for the starting NT job between veteran free agent Isaac Sopoaga and 3rd round pick Bennie Logan based on the first two preseason games, the starter would be Bennie Logan.
Chip Kelly: We're A Work In Progress - Danta Klaus, PhiladelphiaEagles.com
"The one (Vick) threw the pick on, he was trying to throw it away," Kelly said."We just have to make sure he understands what to do. We talked about it. But we have to put him in those situations. That's what this preseason is, hopefully we can get that stuff out of there. I thought he did a real good job keeping plays alive at times, but there are some other times where you have to cut your losses and get us back to the line of scrimmage and get the next snap.
PHI 31, JAX 24 - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
The Eagles were all over the friggin’ place tonight. They looked great at times, they looked terrible at times. The hot topic will be the play of Michael Vick. He was erratic. Vick finished 15-23-184, with a TD and INT. He was 7-53 on the ground. You can’t call that a bad game. But the numbers don’t tell the whole story. The INT was terrible. There was another play where he made a terrible decision and put the ball up for grabs. He was ruled down, but Vick just can’t make that decision. Vick was under some pressure and just didn’t respond well.
Old Vick reappears, but Birds beat Jags - Les Bowen, Daily News
"When I look at my performance tonight, I think I did some good things out there. It’s not always going to be perfect," said Vick, who took seven first half hits, almost none of them on runs. "I’m not perfect. I can do better. There’s a lot that I learned tonight."
Roob's 10 observations: Plenty to worry about - Reuben Frank, CSN Philly
In his first game since Chip Kelly named him the Eagles’ opening-day quarterback, Michael Vick put up OK numbers: 15-for-23 passing, 184 yards, one TD, one INT, 7-for-53 rushing. But he just didn’t look as fluid or as smooth as he did in the first two preseason games. He hung onto the ball too long in the pocket, his decision making was sketchy, and he was just tentative running the offense. Vick reverted back a little, trying to be great on every snap instead of just letting the game come to him and taking what the defense gives him -- which is what he did to win the job in the first place. Vick actually delivered the ball really well for the most part but tried to do too much when there was nothing there. That has to stop. He put up 16 points on eight drives, and the only TD he engineered came on a 21-yard drive (although Bryce Brown’s fumble at the goal-line killed a good drive).
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from the Eagles’ Third Preseason Game - Andrew Kulp, The700Level
Turnovers - The real story. Yes, the Eagles are going to let opponents score, because they’re just not there yet defensively. And yes, Chip Kelly’s offense is exciting as hell and has no problem flying up and down the field at will. But if they don’t knock it off with the turnovers, they can’t beat anybody. It’s 2011 and 2012 all over again.
