Philadelphia Eagles lacking depth at cornerback with injuries to Brandon Hughes, Eddie Whitley

The good news from yesterday's Philadelphia Eagles vs Jacksonville Jaguars game was that there were no major injuries to the starters. There were, however, some injuries to key depth players.

I'm talking about the injuries that CB Brandon Hughes and CB Eddie Whitley suffered. Hughes left the game early with a fractured left hand, and Eddie Whitley suffered a knee injury. Whitley was seen after the game walking on crutches leaving the locker room. That's certainly not a great sign. Curtis Marsh didn't play last night because he suffered a broken hand in last week's game versus the Panthers.

Prior to last night's game, here's what the Eagles depth chart (according to me) looked like at CB, not accounting for injury:

LCB Bradley Fletcher Brandon Boykin Curtis Marsh Trevard Lindley
RCB Cary Williams Brandon Hughes Eddie Whitley Jordan Poyer

Cary and Bradley are clearly starters on the outside, and Brandon Boykin is the starting slot CB. Boykin also could see reps on the outside at times. Beyond that, Hughes was among the top backups on the outside. He's also a special teams contributor. Whitley has had a nice training camp for himself, and while he hasn't majorly stood out, he certainly looked better than some of the other depth CBs. He also looked like a depth option as a slot CB.

Now let's look at that depth chart agian, with consideration to the injuries of Hughes (fractured hand), Whitley (knee), and Marsh (broken hand). Keep in mind there hasn't been a recovery time table yet for these injuries.

LCB Bradley Fletcher Brandon Boykin Curtis Marsh Trevard Lindley
RCB Cary Williams Brandon Hughes Eddie Whitley Jordan Poyer

Yikes. Beyond the Big 3 of Williams/Fletcher/Boykin, only Trevard Lindley and Jordan Poyer are healthy.  Poyer is a rookie who hasn't had an impressive camp and I'm not sure Lindley offers much depth.

The Eagles could certainly be looking to trade for a depth CB (or two?) in the upcoming weeks. Or perhaps they will wait until cut down day and grab a CB that another team cuts. They could certainly use the depth.
