Chip Kelly: Nick Foles will stay with the Eagles in 2013
With the starting quarterback decision out of the way, several Eagles fans are likely wondering what will now become of second-year quarterback Nick Foles. The former third-round pick was in a competition with Michael Vick for the starting job but he lost that battle on Tuesday when head coach Chip Kelly announced that Vick would be "the guy."
Foles played admirably in the preseason but was clearly outperformed by Vick in the first two contests. With Foles taking a backseat, some may question his future with the team. However, Kelly has quickly squashed any concerns about Foles being shipped out of town in the next week few weeks.
"You don't have to look any farther than last night's game with the Redskins, where [Robert Griffin III] is on the sideline and Kirk Cousins goes down in the second quarter," Kelly said. "In this league, you better have a couple of quarterbacks ready to go. I mentioned that again to Nick today. I think Nick is going to approach it that he's the starter, because that's got to be his mentality going into this and prepare like he's a starter."
