Getting to know the Eagles: ILB Emmanuel Acho
With the Eagles moving from a 4-3 defensive to a 3-4 formation, the team has had to add players that fit the new scheme. The 3-4 defense requires two starting inside linebackers and on most teams, two backups. The Eagles already feature starters, DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendrick, but need depth at the position. Former Texas Longhorn Emmanuel Acho is one of the men fighting to earn a roster spot as a backup at inside linebacker.
Acho is had a very impressive college career before entering the NFL. During his time at Texas, Acho and his brother, Sam Acho, were two of the best players on the Longhorn's defense. The younger Acho started for a majority of his time at the university and led the team in tackles in his senior year. A three-time All-Big Academic All-American, Acho also was named first-team All-Big 12 in 2011. He finished his college career with 278 tackles (41 for loss), eight sacks, two interceptions and seven forced fumbles.
Acho was drafted in the sixth-round by the Cleveland Browns in last year's draft. The native of Dallas, Texas was forced to miss his entire rookie season due to a leg injury. Acho's coaching staff last year consisted of current Eagles' defensive coordinator Billy Davis and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
