Robin van Persie will miss a month with a thigh injury

Manchester United will have to make do without their star striker during the busy holiday period.

Robin van Persie will be out for the next month with a thigh injury, leaving Manchester United without one of their best players during the busy holiday schedule. David Moyes revealed the injury on Friday.

While other leagues are taking a break to avoid the year's worst weather, the English Premier League tries to cram as many games into a short window as possible. That means van Persie will miss seven or eight games while injured, when most players normally miss five or six during a month-long layoff.

Manchester United is somewhat lucky that his layoff comes during a period where they don't have too many big games against rivals for Champions League places. The toughest test they face probably comes on January 1, when they host Tottenham Hotspur. Van Persie could return in time for United's trip away to Chelsea, which comes on January 19.
