Virginia Tech recruiting 2013: Hokies' success continues
One of the top programs in the ACC, Virginia Tech is once again having success off the field in the recruiting race. The Hokies already have 20 commits for the class of 2014, including a few four-star prospects.
Virginia Tech's class is currently ranked 21st in the nation and fifth in the ACC. The Hokies trail Miami, Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina. The Hurricanes, Seminoles and Tar Heels all currently have more commitments, and the Tigers have already racked up eight four-star prospects, per the 247Sports composite ratings.
The Hokies have earned verbals from plenty of standouts as well, though, and here's a look at several of the top prospects in their class:
Running back D.J. Reid, a teammate of Fisher's at Fork Union, is also committed to the Hokies. He's a four-star prospect as well. Both he and Fisher have earned impressive rankings at their respective positions.
The Hokies dipped out of state to nab athlete Javon Harrison, who is from Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen High School. He could end up at wide receiver or cornerback, according to 247Sports, and he is considered one of the top 30 players from the state of Florida.
C.J. Reavis is another well-regarded athlete committed to Virginia Tech; the Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale High School product is a consensus three-star prospect, and he is considered one of the top 40 players in the country who have been given the non-committal "athlete" designation. Reavis could end up a defensive back at the next level.
Hampton (Va.) Phoebus High School running back Marshawn Williams is another key piece of the Hokies' class. Williams is a consensus three-star prospect and a top-20 player in Virginia. He is regarded as the 32nd-best running back in the class.
Virginia Tech has two more four-stars who like the Hokies a good bit in Derrick Nnadi, a defensive tackle from Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes, and Shai McKenzie, a running back from Washington (Pa.) Heights High School. The Hokies will battle the likes of Virginia and Pitt to sign them.
