Nazem Kadri, Maple Leafs agree to deal, per report
A restricted free agent, Kadri was reportedly seeking a two-year deal worth roughly $7 million, while the Maple Leafs were countering with a $5.7 million offer, according to Sports Illustrated. Based on the report from Kypreos, the deal is "just shy" of $6 million, so it would appear Kadri came down from his asking price.
The 22-year-old Kadri is coming off a career season. He saw an increase in playing time in his fourth season with Toronto and responded with career highs in goals with 18 and assists with 26. The timing of the deal is crucial with the Maple Leafs set to open training camp on Wednesday. Last week, Kadri said he didn't want to hold out.
Although the Maple Leafs were able to get a deal done with Kadri, restricted free agent Cody Franson remains in flux.
