Red Sox getting rotation ready for playoffs
Clay Buchholz has missed around three months with neck and shoulder injuries, but will return to the starting rotation on Tuesday. The Red Sox have stated that they will not go to a six-man rotation, but they also will not replace one pitcher.
Instead, the team plans to give their other five starters, Jake Peavy, Jon Lester, Felix Doubront, Ryan Dempster and John Lackey, some rest during the final three weeks of the season. Boston has four off-days remaining, which should allow the team to skip one start from every pitcher. Doubront will have his turn skipped first when Buhholz returns.
"It's going to be interesting now down the stretch. We're looking into, right now, how to give guys a start here, a start there, especially early in September, so we can be really fresh, hopefully, by the end of September, and it will hopefully take us into where we want to go,"
Boston enters Monday with a 7 1/2 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.
