T.J. Yates named Texans' backup QB
It's been a tight race for the Houston Texans' No. 2 quarterback spot, but T.J. Yates has managed to fend off youngster Case Keenum. The team announced Thursday that head coach Gary Kubiak has named Yates the official backup to Matt Schaub.
"We'll go this season with T.J. starting as our two," Kubiak told Drew Dougherty. "I couldn't have made a wrong decision. They both played so well."
Yates was taken by the Texans in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has played in 10 games for Houston, throwing 987 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.
