Biogenesis: MLB to suspend Jordany Valdespin, Antonio Bastardo and Sergio Escalona
Mets utility man Jordany Valdespin, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, and Astros pitcher Sergio Escalona will receive 50-game suspensions for their involvement with the Biognesis clinic, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
The three new players join nine previously-named players in accepting 50-game suspensions from MLB. The other nine players include Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta, Everth Cabrera, Jesus Montero, Francisco Cervelli, Fernando Martinez, Jordan Norberto, Fautino De Los Santos and Cesar Puello. All 12 players are expected to begin serving their suspensions immediately.
Alex Rodriguez will also receive a suspension, but his will reportedly be a 214-game ban. Rodriguez is the only player expected to file an appeal, and is scheduled to play for the Yankees Monday night against the Chicago White Sox.
