Patriots won't cut Alfonzo Dennard, according to report
Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard won't be released following his second arrest in as many years, according to a report by Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Dennard made headlines last Thursday when he was arrested for suspicion of DUI in Lincoln, Neb., where he spent his college career at the University of Nebraska. The arrest came not too long after the 23-year-old was convicted of assaulting a police officer in April, an incident that earned him a deferred 30-day jail sentence.
Though they don't plan on cutting him, the Patriots are bracing for punishment to be handed down to Dennard from the league office, according to Volin. The league has been cracking down on personal conduct infractions recently, notably handing former Detroit Lions corner Aaron Berry a three-game suspension after he was arrested twice last offseason.
Dennard started seven games for the Patriots in his rookie season, pulling in three interceptions and scoring a touchdown.
