Texans WR Andre Johnson has 'lost a half-step' according to some evaluators
Andre Johnson was still one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL last season, but ask opponents and they will say that the veteran has lost some of his former explosiveness, according to the National Football Post. Johnson will turn 32 years old this week.
The Houston Texans have been focused on adding young talent around Johnson through the NFL Draft the last two seasons. They added DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin in 2012, and used their 2013 first round pick on DeAndre Hopkins out of Clemson. Johnson is still the team's top wideout, but the Texans will be prepared to move on when he retires, assuming their draftees pan out.
The Texans have reportedly been impressed with Hopkins in practice. If he becomes a consistent No. 2 this season, Johnson's numbers could dip regardless of his advancing age.
