NHL free agency: Tyler Bozak agrees to contract extension with Maple Leafs
Unrestricted free agent forward Tyler Bozak has agreed to terms on a contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to Darren Dreger of TSN on Friday afternoon. Bozak agreed to a five-year contract with an annual average value just under $4.5 million contract. Aaron Ward of TSN reports the deal is for $21 million.
Bozak completed the final year of a two-year, $3 million contract that carried an annual average value of $1.5 million. Dreger reported earlier this week that Bozak's representation at Newport Sports had tabled an eight-year proposal with an annual average salary just under $5 million.
With the decision to give Mikhail Grabovski a compliance buyout on Thursday, which removed his $5.5 million cap hit off the books. Many assumed that the space created by this decision would help retain Bozak.
