Clay Buchholz injury update: RHP increasing throwing program
Buchholz threw 75 feet from flat ground on Wednesday, and threw 90 feet prior to Thursday's game. Boston will have the starter throw 15 feet farther each day until he can return to the mound.
Red Sox manager John Farrell discussed Buchholz's rehab program with Periatt, telling the reporter:
The pitcher is expected to make two rehab starts before returning to the team, making it unlikely he rejoins the rotation until after the All-Star break.
Buchholz made 12 starts for Boston before heading to the DL, going 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA. The right-hander has increased his strikeout rate, fanning 81 batters over 84 1/3 innings, and has only surrendered two home runs this season.
