Patriots offer free Aaron Hernandez jersey exchange in July
The New England Patriots are offering a free Aaron Hernandez jersey exchange on July 6 and 7 in light of recent developments regarding the team's former tight end. Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday and released by New England the same day; he was later charged with first-degree murder.
The Patriots released a statement about the jersey exchange on Friday:
"We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don't want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore," said New England Patriots spokesperson Stacey James. "We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player's jersey will be well received by parents."
Exchanges must be conducted at the Patriots ProShop, which is located at Gillette Stadium.
Hernandez is being investigated for his possible involvement in the murder of Odin Lloyd. Police initially began questioning Hernandez on June 18 after Lloyd's body was discovered near the tight end's house by a jogger. The case escalated in the days afterward, though, with police now also looking into Hernandez's potential involvement in a double murder that occurred last July.
