Panthers acquire Bobby Butler via trade, send T.J. Brennan to Predators
Both players are scheduled to become restricted free agents this summer, so the teams have merely traded the rights of the two players. In order to maintain control of them, the clubs will need to extend them qualifying offers.
Brennan finished out a one-year, $550,000 contract last season with the Panthers. The 24-year-old began the 2013 season as a member of the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to Florida on March 15 for a fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft. In 19 games with the Panthers, Brennan averaged 17:10 of ice-time, which included substantial time on the power play (2:05 average).
