Phillies-Yankees: Who's hot, who's not

Hot

PHILLIES:

Chase Utley. If Phillies fans are looking for good karma it should be noted that Utley hit a home run in Game 1 of the 2008 World Series. His first home run last night was in the third inning, his second was in sixth, both off CC Sabathia.

YANKEES:

Derek Jeter. The Yankees shortstop is well versed in postseason baseball, hitting .308 in 132 career postseason games. In 32 World Series games before last night, Jeter hit .302 with three RBI and eight home runs.

Not

PHILLIES

Eric Bruntlett. Bruntlett suffered the wrath of the local fan base after a miserable season in which hit just .171. In 29 career postseason games (before last night) with Houston and the Phillies, he has hit just .188.

YANKEES

Jorge Posada. In 105 career postseason games (before last night), Posada hit .238 with just 34 RBI. In 23 World Series games before last night, he hit just .208 with two home runs and six RBI.

Obscure stat

The winner of Game 1 has won 17 of the last 20 World Series. The three teams that failed to win Game 1 were the 1992 Atlanta Braves, 1996 Atlanta Braves and 2002 San Francisco Giants. Of those three, only the '92 Braves lost at home.
