Victorino wins Gold Glove

Centerfielder Shane Victorino won his third consecutive Gold Glove award today.

Victorino is now the sixth Phillie to have won at least three Gold Gloves, joining Mike Schmidt (10), Garry Maddox (8), Manny Trillo (3), Scott Rolen (3) and Jimmy Rollins (3).

Victorino and Maddox are the only two outfielders in club history to have won at least three awards and Schmidt, Maddox, Rollins and Victorino are the only four Phillies to have won Gold Gloves in at least three consecutive seasons.

In 143 games for the Phillies this past season, Victorino, 29, posted a .995 fielding percentage, committing only two errors in 373 total chances. He finished tied for the NL lead in outfield assists with 11, tops among all NL center fielders, and ranked second in double plays (4).

Victorino also earns a $50,000 bonus from an incentive clause in his contract.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the managers and coaches as one of the top defensive players in the league along with all the other deserving candidates," Victorino said in a statement. "I take a lot of pride in my defense and this award means a lot to me."

Former Phillies Scott Rolen and Michael Bourn also won awards. It was Rolen's eighth Gold Glove, coming for his third team. Bourn is a first-time winner.
