Report: Larry Bowa nearing agreement to return to Phillies as coach
The Phillies are nearing an agreement with former Phillies shortstop, manager and coach Larry Bowa to return as a coach under manager Ryne Sandberg, according to CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.
Sandberg has three vacant positions on his staff: pitching coach, third base coach and bench coach.
More from Salisbury:
"People close to Sandberg have said that he wanted Bowa on the staff. The challenge was convincing the front office to bring back Bowa for a fourth tour of duty. Bowa, who played 12 seasons with the Phils and managed them for another four (2001-2004), has had some messy breakups with the club in the past, but always seems to find his way back."
Bowa's last coaching gig was as a third base coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers under manager Joe Torre from 2008-10.
Currently, Bowa is an MLB Network analyst for "MLB Tonight." He has held the position since 2011.
