Polanco out of today's line-up against Max Scherzer
David Murphy
As expected, Placido Polanco is not in the line-up for today's game against the Tigers and righthander Max Scherzer. The veteran third baseman sprained his finger on Saturday and is expected to miss a few days.
Otherwise, the line-up looks a lot like one you might see once the regular season begins, with Laynce Nix in left field and John Mayberry Jr. at first base.
1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Shane Victorino CF
3. Hunter Pence RF
4. Jim Thome DH
5. Ty Wigginton 3B
6. Laynce Nix LF
7. John Mayberry Jr. 1B
8. Carlos Ruiz C
9. Freddy Galvis 2B
10. SP - Scott Elarton
A few things to note:
-Nix will be making his first Grapefruit League start in the field in a week (rib injury), although he did play five innings in a minor league game yesterday.
-Wigginton's defense at third base will be something to watch as the Phillies try to make some sense of there infield situation, which was partly cloudy heading into spring training and is now overcast. We wrote about the defensive questions in today's paper. Wigginton has always been known more for his bat than his glove. It's unclear how much faith Charlie Manuel will have in him at the hot corner. In yesterday's game, a single got past him and ended up leading to a pair of Blue Jays runs. It looked like a play that Placido Polanco could have made.
as the Phillies try to make sense of there infield situation? THEIR is what it should read, don't you have to take english classes to be a journalist? rpknfn14
You don't have to take english classes, but you should take English classes. dasher
It appears that the lineups are going to depend on Utley. And if the next 2 weeks does not see an uptick of good pitching, the team will have to depend on .....prayer. Because frankly, this is a far cry from even last year's 102 win team and with others picking up steam, the Phils are in worse trouble than even the media flacks are telling us. Koons
Yesterday in Dunedin Wiggy looked like a Cigar Store Indian statue standing at third base. Dull
Comment removed.
Phills dont have much to offer in trade. Their minor league situation is not strong. The other teams have no wish to help Phillies. Hamels would bring some return but not as much as some think as teams know he is a free agent after season. I dont know why you would trade him and weaken teams strongest point. Brown's bat make him worth keeping and other teams woud be very interested I would hope he is back up soon. Don w
