Pitching schedule includes Willis, not Contreras

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A day after Dontrelle Willis complained of arm soreness and Rich Dubee said the lefthander would be "checked out" by team doctors, Willis appears on next week's pitching schedule.

Noticably absent is Jose Contreras, who the Phillies have said is progressing nicely from elbow surgery. He's thrown to hitters in batting practice and said it was likely he'd appear sometime in the second week of Grapefruit League action. Apparently he won't, which could seriously limit his chances at beginning the season on the roster.

The Phillies have said they will be overly cautious with Contreras. He threw batting practice to Carlos Ruiz last Sunday, but it's unknown what throwing he has done since then.

There should be further updates regarding Willis and Contreras later in the day.

There's a lineup for this afternoon's game with one intriguing note: Ty Wigginton will make his first appearance at second base.

Wigginton has started the majority of his career at third base, but he's made 145 career starts at second. He did not play an inning at second in 2011, but did start 35 games there in 2010. Some scouts say second base is Wigginton's best position.

The Phillies will look at Wigginton there to see if he can serve as insurance should Chase Utley miss time during the season.

The lineup:

1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Placido Polanco 5
3. Shane Victorino 8
4. Jim Thome 0
5. Hunter Pence 9
6. Ty Wigginton 4
7. John Mayberry Jr. 3
8. Laynce Nix 7
9. Brian Schneider 2
