Pirates acquire Justin Morneau
The Pirates are fortifying their offense for their first playoff run in 20 years, and they are not holding back, bringing in slugger Justin Morneau in a trade with the Twins.
The deal sent outfielder Alex Presely to Minnesota. Morneau is an All-Star first baseman, but has suffered with injuries in recent years. He missed half of the 2010 season with a concussion, and spent time on the DL in 2011 with lingering concussion symptoms, a wrist inury, a shoulder injury, neck surgery, and the flu, playing in 69 games.
This season, Morneau returned to the everyday lineup and is hitting .259 with a .773 OPS and 19 home runs.
