Cliff Lee opened his spring with an up-and-down effort in a 6-2 Phillies loss to a split squad of Detroit Tigers at Bright House Field.

Lee surrendered two first-inning runs - one on a long triple by Ryan Raburn - in his two-inning stint. The triple was the only hit, but he walked a batter, hit another and moved a baserunner along with a wild pitch.

On the other hand, he had three strikeouts, all looking, out of the eight batters he faced.

Projected bullpen contributors Kyle Kendrick and Danys Baez fared better on the mound. Kendrick pitched two scoreless innings with a strikeout, and Baez pitched around a double to post a scoreless eighth. In addition to Lee's runs, the rest of Detroit's damage came off non-roster righty Eddie Bonine, who pitched last season for the Tigers.

On offense, Brian Schneider and Josh Barfield had two hits each, and the Phils had 10 hits total, but struggled to link many together for runs.

Domonic Brown and Ben Francisco swapped the spots they've been manning - with Brown moving to DH for the day, and Francisco playing right field. But the results didn't change much for Brown, who was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

The Phillies play at home again Wednesday, hosting the Baltimore Orioles with Roy Oswalt getting his first Spring Training start.
