Chad Durbin, whom last night surrendered three ninth inning runs to supplement a demoralizing 9-2 victory against the Red Sox, has been released by the Phillies.

An alumni of the 2008 World Series team, the 35-year-old righty had previously been released by the Phillies in 2011, only to be re-signed in 2013.

His 9.00 ERA over 16 innings pitched this season has helped contribute to the Phillies' woes. Joe Savery has been recalled from Lehigh Valley to fill the vacated roster spot.

From the Inquirer's Matt Gelb, the Phillies will still be on the hook for $1.1 million ($850,000 + $250,000 2014 buyout) due to Durbin being cut outright.
