The Phillies announced Monday afternoon that right-handed pitcher David Herndon has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Herndon posted a 0-1 record with a 4.70 ERA in five games for the Phillies in 2012. All of those appearances came in April, before he suffering a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow.

Herndon underwent Tommy John surgery in June and is expected to return to the field midway through next year.

For his career in the majors, Herndon has a 2-8 record with one save and a 3.85 ERA in 97 appearances.

Coincidentally, the player that the Blue Jays released to make room for Herndon on their roster was former Phillies prospect Tyson Brummett.
