Phillies interested in reliever Mitchell Boggs

The next pitcher being targeted by the Phillies - and at least five other teams - is former Cardinals and Rockies reliever Mitchell Boggs, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The 29-year-old came up from triple-A Memphis in 2008, throwing 308 innings out of the Cardinals' bullpen with a 4.15 ERA.

Formerly a starter, Boggs made 15 starts for St. Louis but has not started a game since 2009.

The right-hander had his best year, WAR-wise, in 2012 when posted a 1.9 - the first time he had ever accumulated anything higher than 1.0. He also led the league in holds with 34 and kept his ERA at 2.21.

Boggs' HR/9 jumped a bit in 2013, namely after his move from St. Louis to Colorado. His struggles at Busch Stadium seemed to be amplified by the thin Denver air, as he bounced from 0.6 in 2012 to 1.8 in 2013 with the Cardinals to a whopping 2.1 after arriving at Coors Field.

His ERA also jumped slightly in 2013, from 2.21 to 8.10, after inheriting closer duties. He was sent down to the minors, blew a one-run lead and was immediately demoted again. In early July, he was swapped out for an international signing bonus from the Rockies.

A member of the 2011 World Series champion Cardinals, Boggs gave up two runs in two innings vs. the Phillies in the NLDS.
