SARASOTA, Fla. – Chase Utley hit a pair of two-run home runs and the Philadelphia Phillies hit five homers overall in a 13-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

Ryan Howard, Domonic Brown and Yuniesky Betancourt also hit home runs for the Philllies, who had 14 hits on the day.

Utley and Brown both had four RBIs.

While much of Saturday’s news will focus on Roy Halladay’s performance in a minor league game back in Clearwater, it was definitely a good day for the Phillies who made the trip to Sarasota.

Starter Aaron Cook went 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs, while reliever Phillippe Aumont – one of the contenders for a bullpen spot – went 1 1/3 innings and gave up a run. Aumont’s control was once again an issue, as he threw one wild pitch (which allowed the run to score) and walked one.

Philadelphia dominated this one from the start, jumping on Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen for three runs in the first.

Jimmy Rollins hit a one-out double down the left-field line and was followed by an opposite field blast by Utley. Howard followed that with a solo home run of his own, also to left field, and it was 3-0 Phillies.

After Brown and John Mayberry Jr. both delivered run-scoring singles to make it a 5-0 game in the third inning, the Phillies tacked on five more runs in the fourth.

That included Utley’s second two-run homer of the day. Again, it was to left field and also brought home Ben Revere, who had reached on an error.

Utley’s blast spelled the end of the day for Chen, who was replaced by Jim Johnson. The right-hander didn’t fare much better as Howard walked, Michael Young singled and Brown hit a three-run homer to left-center field.

Betancourt, who came into replace Rollins, hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh.

Antonio Bastardo, Mike Adams and J.C. Ramirez all followed Aumont to the mound with Adams giving up one run.

How do you think Roy Halladay will pitch this year?
He’ll be the Roy Halladay of old.
He’ll be good, but not what he used to be.
He’ll be OK, but nothing special.
    It’s all downhill from here.

It has been rare this spring to see any reliever pitch an inning without giving up a run.

1.Aumont does not belong in the Majors. Not unless you have a 10 run lead and just want to get him some work.

      2. Very good to see Utley going the other way. He needs to do that to be successful now.

      3. Me, the biggest DBrown 1 tool basher of them all, may finally be a convert. I am seeing signs in him, I've NEVER seen before. EVER. Keep it up Dom. And did you see him standing next to RHoward? Either Howard's slimmed wayyyy down or DBrown is filling out folks. This could get very interesting.

      4. I don't have any idea what Joyner and Henderson have done to Betancourt, but this is NOT the same Betancourt we've seen for the last 6-7 years in MLB. He has had some kind of epiphany people. You watch him hit. He's still, strong and not off balance in the box. His HR was off a guy our other players really couldn't touch Jim Johnson their ace closer. His swing is short, it's compact, it's more accurate to the ball than ever. There is no way you keep Galvis right now and send Betancourt packing off to the Cards. I got rocked here for this argument a few days ago, but that's ok. I can take it. This team will be sooo much better with him on our bench. I just hope we can convince him to stay.

I can't believe that we have to put up with John Mayberry getting a starting job with the Phils again, if this isn't a recipe for failure I don't know what is. Mayberry has proved over and over that he has no passion for this game and that he flat out cannot hit. Oh, but let's send Ruf down because we don't need a righthanded power bat in this lineup, after all we have Mayberry. Aunt Bea is calling you JM, please go home where we don't have to watch you be completely bored with the game.

Wonder if Betancourt can play the outfield. Anything but Mayberry.

Did it sound like Rollins is batting second to Revere's lead-off? That's promising.

What I really love about Dom Brown aside from the power is his patience, pitch selection and ability to come back from down in the count. I don't what the stats are, but it seems like most of his homers have come off 0-2 counts. Chase Utley might not be the 30 homer guy he was before, but he's still a pure hitter who has skills you just can't teach and the fact that he is healthy has me really excited. Throw in the resurgence of Howard, the speed and potential of Ben Revere and (as much as most people hate to admit) the above average power and speed that Jimmy Rollins brings to the SS position this is solid lineup.

I understand the concern about Halladay, but Hamels and Lee are still two aces. Not many clubs can say they have that.

I just reserved a parking spot on South Broad Street with (2) lawn chairs, (3) Wawa milk crates and a stolen police cone for the 2013 World Series parade in the fall.

Phills start 2013 with a few issues 1. After Lee, Hamels some questions. Halladay is a concern and Lannan and Kendrick project to be 500 pitchers. 2. Team is over balanced with lefthanded bats. Teams will bring in lefty relievers to face Utley Howard late in game. Their history is it reduces their effectiveness. 3. Nats and Braves look loaded. Nats got lucky when they had 1st draft pick Strassburg and Harper were out there. Strassburg could be NLs best pitcher and Harper could be off the charts. The pick up of reliever Soriano also strengthed team. Nats look like they have no weakness. Braves have best reliever in game in Kimbrall and a strong lineup. Freeman could step into next level and be among games best hitters.

The team is overloaded with lefty hitters. If they keep Mayberry, who can adequately fill in all three outfield spots, they can afford to leave Ruff's bat in the line-up. They are going to have to bash the ball to win.

with a few prior posters, cannot believe Mayberry is still with the team in anythign other than a late-inning defensive replacement. @BigT nailed it when he wrote that Maybberry has no passion for the game and most of the time looks like he's about to fall asleep out there.

With Betancourt coming on, and with Manuel in love with Freddy G., I have a real fear it will be Frandsen who goes this week for a reserve outfielder. Don't put it past Amaro to do that.
