Phillies Minor League Report: Tom Windle rocked during Reading loss

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Tuesday, June 23:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs (28-45) – Triple A

The IronPigs plated four runs during the final three innings to surge past the Buffalo Bisons by a score of 5-4 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, N.Y.

The IronPigs went into the seventh inning trailing 2-1, but that changed when Russ Canzler hit a solo home run to tie the game. The homer was Canzler's fifth of the season.

An RBI single from Cord Phelps during the eighth gave the IronPigs their first lead being up 1-0 during the first inning.

The Bisons took back the lead during the bottom of the eighth with two runs off Cesar Jimenez, but Jordan Danks put the game out of reach with a two-run homer during the top of the ninth. The homer was Danks' second of the year.

Leading the way in hits for Lehigh Valley were Chase D'Arnaud and Brian Bogusevic, who both went 2-for-4.

Starting pitcher Severino Gonzalez didn't factor into the decision despite putting together a solid six-inning outing where he allowed two runs on four hits.

Despite blowing his third save of the season, Jimenez picked up his second win. Juan Gutierrez was awarded the save.

After taking the series opener, the IronPigs will attempt to clinch a series victory over Buffalo at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Aaron Nola (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to make his second triple-A start for Lehigh Valley.

Reading Fightin Phils (37-33) – Double-A

Tom Windle and the Fightin Phils were belted during a 9-4 loss to the Akron RubberDucks at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

The RubberDucks tagged Windle to the tune of 11 hits in only four innings. He also coughed up six runs (five earned). The Fightin Phils yielded 19 hits overall.

Windle was handed the loss, which dropped his record to 2-5 on the year.

While the RubberDucks were having a hit parade, the Fightin Phils put up a more modest eight hits, three of which came courtesy of KC Serna, as he went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Serna now has 20 RBI so far this season.

Now with their three-game winning streak being a thing of the past, the Fightin Phils will look to bounce back against the RubberDucks at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Mark Leiter (0-1, 3.86 ERA) is slated to start for Reading.

Clearwater Threshers (35-33) – Class A-Advanced

An RBI hit from Chace Numata gave the Threshers a 1-0 lead during the second inning, but that turned out to be the final inning of the day, as their game against the Daytona Tortugas was suspended due to rain at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

The game will be completed Wednesday and will be followed up by their regularly scheduled game.

Lakewood BlueClaws (33-35) – Class A

The BlueClaws are off until Thursday due to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game that took place Tuesday night.

They will take the field again as a team at 7 p.m. Thursday when they face Hickory Crawdads.

Williamsport Crosscutters (5-0) – Class A-Short Season

The Crosscutters' hot start to the 2015 season continued after a 3-1 victory over the West Virginia Black Bears at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport.

Despite five walks, starting pitcher Luis Morales helped keep the Black Bears at bay, yielding only one run on three hits during three innings.

However, Lewis Alezones collect his first win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief of Morales.

Offensively, the Crosscutters only recorded eight hits as Brendon Hayden and Carlos Duran each had two.

The Crosscutters will attempt to sweep the Black Bears at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
