Phillies Minor League Report: J.P. Crawford records first two hits in Clearwater

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Saturday, June 21:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs' four-game winning streak came to an embarrassing end Saturday by way of a 14-2 loss to the Columbus Clippers at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

The Clippers racked up 20 hits, which along with the 14 runs were Lehigh Valley franchise records. Eleven of those 20 hits and eight of those 14 runs came off Lehigh Valley starter Barry Enright.

Enright lasted only four innings Saturday after allowing six earned runs. He let up seven runs during the third inning, which contributed to his record dropping to 3-7.

Things didn't get much better after Enright was taken off the mound, as all three of the Lehigh Valley relief pitchers surrendered at least one run. Shawn Camp caught the worst of it, allowing four runs on five hits during two innings.

The Lehigh Valley pitching staff gave multiple hits to seven members of the Columbus lineup. Columbus right fielder Carlos Moncrief went 4-for-6 with an RBI.

For the IronPigs, right fielder Steve Susdorf and shortstop Andres Blanco led the way, going 2-for-4. Blanco and left fielder Cam Perkins drove in the two Lehigh Valley runs.

After taking a pounding Saturday, the IronPigs will try to bounce back against the Clippers at 1:35 p.m. Sunday. Sean O'Sullivan (3-6, 4.23 ERA) is scheduled to start.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

Center fielder Aaron Altherr extending his hitting streak was one of the few highlights of the Fightin Phils' loss to the New Britain Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium in New Britain, Conn.

Altherr's only hit of the contest drove in the game's first run, giving the Fightin Phils the early advantage. From there, things went downhill, as the Fightin Phils' were dealt their fifth straight loss.

The slide began in the bottom of the first when starter Perci Garner allowed four runs. Garner recovered and only allowed one more run during his six innings of work. Only three of the runs were earned, but he also walked five batters and was handed the loss, which dropped his record to 4-4.

The Fightin Phils managed to plate another run during the third inning thanks to an RBI hit from third baseman Anthony Phillips, but couldn't muster any more offense besides that. Reading went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position Saturday and left 10 runners on base.

Shortstop Edgar Duran (2-for-4) and second baseman Carlos Alonso (2-for-5) led the Fightin Phils in hitting.

The Fightin Phils have one more crack at the Rock Cats at 1:35 p.m. Sunday. Left-hander Adam Loewen (0-0, 5.17 ERA) will take the mound for Reading.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

Two runs during the seventh inning helped the Threshers pull ahead of the Lakeland Flying Tigers on their way to a 5-4 win Saturday at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

The Threshers trailed the Flying Tigers, 4-3, entering the bottom of the seventh. Clearwater's rally began with a two-out double from shortstop J.P. Crawford. Second baseman KC Serna followed Crawford with an RBI-single to center field. Left fielder Brandon Short followed Serna with an RBI-triple to right field that gave the Threshers their first lead of the game.

Lino Martinez then tossed two scoreless innings to secure the Threshers' second victory in a row and his third save of the season. Starter Colin Klevin posted a solid outing by allowing three runs on four hits. Daniel Child earned the decision after tossing two innings in relief of Klevin where he allowed one run on one hit.

The Threshers had a lot production offensively Saturday, as they recorded 10 hits. Short led the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Crawdord and Serna weren't far behind, as they both went 2-for-4. Serna drove in two runs as well.

The Threshers will go up against the Flying Tigers again at 1 p.m. Sunday. Lefty Ryan Demmin (1-1, 1.80 ERA) will start for Clearwater.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

A walk-off single from left fielder Larry Greene ended the BlueClaws' five-game losing streak by way of a 6-5 win over the West Virginia Power in 10 innings at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.

With two outs and no one on during the 10th, catcher Jose Mayorga hit an infield single. He managed advance to second after a throwing error from West Virginia second baseman Adam Landecker.

Greene then stepped to the plate and slapped an RBI-single to center field that gave him his sixth RBI of the season.

Greene was one of seven different BlueClaws to record a hit Saturday. Third baseman Mitch Walding led the team by going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Catcher Andrew Knapp provided some power with a two-run homer during the second inning. The dinger was his first of the season.

Starting pitcher Yacksel Rios wasn't quite as productive on the mound, as he allowed five runs (one earned) on five hits during three innings. After Rios was taken off the mound, Julio Reyes was great during four scoreless innings in relief of Rios.

The decision, however, went to Will Morris after he tossed one inning. The victory was his first of the season.

The BlueClaws will try to even up the series with the Power during the final at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. Ranfi Casimiro (2-5, 5.02 ERA) will start for Lakewood.

Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season

The Aubrun Doubledays jumped on Williamsport starter Feliberto Sanchez early, and it cost the Crosscutters for the second game in a row by a score of 5-3 at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y.

Sanchez allowed five runs on eight hits in only 2.1 innings, which gave him his second loss of the season.

The Williamsport offense didn't fare much better, recording only eight hits. Right fielder Cord Sandberg (2-for-3) and catcher Deivi Grullon (2-for-4) led the Crosscutters from the plate. Grullon also drove in his fifth run of the season.

After being swept by the Doubledays, the Crosscutters will lock up with the Jamestown Jammers at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Russell Diethrick Park in Jamestown, N.Y. Mitch Gueller is scheduled to start for Williamsport.
