Phillies Minor League Report: FIghtin Phils rack up 12 runs, 21 hits during victory

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Wednesday, May 27:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs have now dropped three in a row after losing twice to the Gwinnett Braves Wednesday by scores of 8-2 and 4-1 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga.

The first game of the twin bill was the completion of a game that started Monday, but was suspended and then pushed back to Wednesday due to rain.

The IronPigs posted a productive outing from the plate during Game 1, as they racked up 11 hits, but left seven runners stranded on base and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Leading the way for Lehigh Valley was Cody Asche, who hit a solo home run during the eighth and finished 3-for-4 overall.

The Lehigh Valley pitching staff had a rough go of things, as it gave up 13 hits to Gwinnett as a unit. The man that had the toughest outing was reliever Chris Leroux, who allowed three runs on six hits during three innings of work.

Things didn't get any better for the IronPigs during Game 2, as Joely Rodriguez tossed all six innings while coughing up four runs on five hits.

Even worse, the IronPigs' hitting didn't pick up Rodriguez's slack, as they could muster four hits. The IronPig's lone run came courtesy of an RBI double from Domonic Brown during the fourth inning.

The IronPigs are scheduled for yet another doubleheader with the Braves Thursday starting at 5:05 p.m. Phillippe Aumont (2-1, 1.64 ERA) is scheduled to start the first game while Jason Berken (3-2, 4.29 ERA) is slated to start the second.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double-A

A night after posting double-digit runs and hits, the Fightin Phils were at it again Wednesday during a 12-10 slugfest victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at NorthEast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

To say that the Fightin Phils had a productive offensive outing would be putting it mildly. Besides a posting a season-high 12 runs, they also racked up a season-high 21 hits.

Even more amazing was the Fightin Phils' attack was so balanced, as all but one member of the lineup recorded at least two hits. The lone Fightin Phil not to do so was Gabriel Lino, and even he went 1-for-6 with an RBI.

But the day belonged to Tony Thomas, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run homer during the second inning that started a stretch of 11 runs between the second and sixth innings.

Brock Stassi continued his recent hot streak, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

While the Reading pitching staff coughed up a combined 14 hits, the vast majority of them came at the expense of Zach Eflin.

Eflin lasted only three innings Wednesday after he allowed eight runs on 12 hits. The decision went to Nefi Ogando, who managed to keep the Fisher Cats off the scoreboard during his two innings on the mound.

Stephen Shackleford collected his eighth save of the season after tossing two scoreless innings as well.

In the last two games against New Hampshire, the Fightin Phils have put up 22 runs and a combined 37 hits.

They will look to keep that going when they wrap up their series with the Fisher Cats at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. Tom Windle (1-3, 4.69 ERA) will take the mound for Reading.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

Despite a furious rally during the eighth and ninth innings, the Threshers fell just short of the Fort Myers Miracle Wednesday, 6-5, at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

The Threshers went into the bottom of the eighth trailing the Miracle, 4-1, but received back-to-back RBI hits from Aaron Brown and Angelo Mora, which helped them pull the deficit to one run.

In the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Knapp came through with a double to left field that allowed J.P. Crawford to cross the plate for the game-tying run.

The Miracle managed to plate two runs at the expense of Clearwater pitcher Ulises Joaquin during the 10th to retake the lead. Despite a sacrifice bunt from Chase Harris that allowed Mora to cross the plate during the bottom of the frame, the Threshers came up just short.

The Threshers recorded 13 hits Wednesday, as six members of the lineup posted two hits apiece. Knapp went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs.

Starting pitcher Victor Arano posted a solid outing on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work.

The Threshers will look to bounce back during a doubleheader with the Miracle starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. Mark Leiter (3-0, 1.30 ERA) and David Whitehead (2-6, 3.83 ERA) are scheduled to start for Clearwater.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

A walk-off RBI single from Joel Fisher in the bottom of the 11th lifted the BlueClaws to a dramatic victory over the West Virginia Power by a score 7-6 Wednesday at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.

After Damek Tomscha popped up to start the 11th, Herlis Rodriguez hit a single to right field to put the winning run on base.

Rodriguez eventually made it to third base thanks to an error on a pickoff attempt by West Virginia's Nick Neumann.

During the same at-bat, Fisher hit a ground ball to left field for Lakewood's 15th and final hit of the contest, which drove in the winning run.

Fisher's clutch hit was third of the game, as he finished 3-for-5. The BlueClaws boasted six members of the lineup that recorded multiple hits.

The Power racked up 12 hits against Lakewood, seven of which came at the expense of starter Ranfi Casimiro. Casimiro allowed three runs during his six innings of work.

The victory was handed to Joey DeNato, as he tossed one scoreless inning. The win was his second of the season.

After salvaging a win over the Power, the BlueClaws will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to open a four-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at New Bridge Bank Park, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. Chris Oliver (2-4, 3.15 ERA) is slated to start for Lakewood.
