Phillies Minor League Report: Aaron Nola thriving with IronPigs

Aaron Nola picked up his third win for the IronPigs on Monday, as Lehigh Valley defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-1, at Coca-Cola Park.

Here's how the Phillies' minor-league teams fared on Monday, June 29:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

Aaron Nola picked up his third win for the IronPigs, as Lehigh Valley defeated the visiting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-1, at Coca-Cola Park.

Nola pitched five shutout innings, allowed five hits and struck out four.

The IronPigs' offense was led by second baseman Cord Phelps, who went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Center fielder Jordan Danks went 1 for 3 with a double. Left fielder Aaron Altherr was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

The IronPigs will continue their series with the RailRiders at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double-A

Reading won a seven-inning game with the Portland Sea Dogs, 6-1, at Hadlock Field.

Mark Leiter pitched an eight-hitter and picked up his first win for the Fightin Phils. Leiter allowed one run and struck out two.

Right fielder Kelly Dugan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Shortstop J.P. Crawford was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Reading will travel to face New Britain at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

Clearwater used 11 hits to defeat the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 3-1, at Charlotte Sports Park.

Yacksel Rios pitched four innings of relief to earn his third win of the season. Rios allowed one run on two hits and struck out two.

Left fielder Andrew Pullin went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Center fielder Carlos Tocci was 1 for 5.

The Threshers will continue their series with the Stone Crabs at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The visiting BlueClaws fell, 5-4, to the Hickory Crawdads at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Lakewood starter Yoel Mecias lasted just one-third of an inning and allowed five runs on four hits. Mecias lost his second game of the season.

Designated hitter Damek Tomscha and shortstop Emmanuel Marrero each picked up a pair of hits.

Lakewood will be back in action Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., beginning a series at Delmarva.

Williamsport Crosscutters – Short-Season A

The Crosscutters remained undefeated (10-0) by beating the host Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 5-2, at Eastwood Field.

Mitch Gueller earned his second victory of the season. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five over six innings.

Second baseman Mark Mathias went 2 for 4 with a double and knocked in a run.

Williamsport will continue its series with the Scrappers at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
