Phillies, Adams reportedly agree to deal

Phillies fans have been waiting for Ruben Amaro Jr.’s signature offseason “big splash” move all month.
Signing a setup man might not qualify, unless it’s a player regarded as one of the best 8th inning men in baseball. The Phillies have reportedly came to an agreement with that guy.
Late Friday night, KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas, reported that the Phillies and free agent setup man Mike Adams had come to terms on a three-year.
The television station cited a member of the Adams’ family as its source. The 34-year-old Adams is a Corpus Christi native.
Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com followed the Texas TV station’s report with his own Saturday morning, saying the deal was for two years and $12 million, pending a physical.
The Phillies have not commented on the rumored deal.
If the Phils do land Adams, it would be a big boost to a bullpen in need of a veteran arm in front of closer Jonathan Papelbon. Adams has a 2.28 ERA in 358 major league games with the Brewers, Padres and Rangers.
Of the 363 2/3 innings Adams has pitched in his career, 228 of them have come in the eighth inning. In that eighth inning work, Adams has a 1.82 ERA with 237 strikeouts and 63 walks.
The Phils had interest in Adams two summers ago when he was traded from the Padres to the Rangers.
